What is the Internet Connectivity Index?

Staying connected is essential for today's travelers, but access isn't always guaranteed everywhere. Some countries offer easy connectivity, while others still present obstacles such as censorship and high costs. The Internet Connectivity Index maps this digital landscape using four pillars:

Internet Connectivity Index

Staying connected is essential for today's travelers, but access isn't always guaranteed everywhere. Some countries offer easy connectivity, while others still present obstacles such as censorship and high costs. The Internet Connectivity Index maps this digital landscape using four pillars:

Cybersecurity

A secure digital environment protects travelers from unforeseen events. Whether it's secure infrastructure or robust legal frameworks, high scores indicate reduced risks when browsing, banking, or working online abroad.

Connection quality

Fast and stable connections ensure a smooth online experience. We assessed countries based on their performance in broadband and mobile connectivity, from video calls and streaming to photo downloads.

Freedom on the Internet

With an open internet, the world is at your fingertips. Countries with the highest scores allow unrestricted access to news, social media, and essential services, ensuring that travelers remain fully connected to the global web.

Financial accessibility

Affordable mobile data is the key to true digital freedom. We've analyzed the price per gigabyte to show travelers where they can stay connected without high charges.

What do these numbers mean?

We combined travel needs with global data to assess internet usability in each country. Each country was evaluated according to four equally weighted criteria: security, quality, freedom, and affordability.

Each score was standardized on a scale of 0 to 100:

  • Above 50: above average performance
  • 50: global average
  • Less than 50: below average

Our data comes from reliable international reports and indices, including the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index, the GSMA Mobile Connectivity Index, and the Human Freedom Index. We prioritized the most recent data to keep the index up-to-date. Most results reflect the years 2024 and 2025, with some earlier data included where recent figures were unavailable.
